The Wildflower Meadow

Our first major element to our Wild Backyard!  The meadow is a natural environment of native wildflowers that are attractive and beneficial.   Diverse species benefit pollinators and support small wildlife.  The bench is a reclaimed swing that provides a place to sit for enjoyment and reflection.  We placed a large container to provide water.  We mounted our "Happy Birdy" Smart Bird Feeder in the meadow as well (Check this Gallery for pictures.)

Spring 2026 Update:  The meadow is failing!  Grass is taking over.  Although there are small patches of wildflowers, we are discussing plans to reset it either wholly or in parts over several years.  Progress will be shared here.

All the flowers in the meadow are native to Northeastern Ohio.  The seeds were purchased from OPNSeed.com.  Specific mixes were selected based on appearance, variety, and benefits. The field is left untamed and allowed to develop naturally.  There are some duplicates between mixes and many species can be found in other areas of our Wild Backyard.  Some of the listed species have not been seen in the meadow yet as they could take up to 3-5 years to emerge.

We recommend iNaturalist for help identifying and learning more about specific specie. (HERE)
